• Part 2: Sanitizing


  • So, now that you have all the equipment you need, the next step is to sanitize that equipment. This is a very important step, and it’s important to be thorough.

    Getting bacteria or foreign organisms in your beer is number one way to spoil a batch. These little demons can cause your beer to have off flavors and strange, awful tastes. So sanitizing is key! However, don’t be frightened if your beer tastes off, pathogens cannot grow in beer so even if the taste is funky, it won’t kill you.

    There are lots of sanitizers out there available from brew supply stores or online. Just make sure to follow instructions carefully, and be thorough. All equipment that will be in contact with the beer needs to be sanitized.
